The Lesson Furniture Taught Me
Let me take you back, back to when I had two jobs, teaching a waiting tables to make ends meet with my single self. See, I decided to start paying for things with cash, so I put my couch on layaway! When I paid for it in full, months later, it was delayed for another 30 days because they only had part of it available. In short, I set a date for my furniture to be delivered. Hey what’s another 30 days without a couch?!
Then, my harvest day came!
“Ms Cox?”
“Yes, this is she! How are you?”
“Delivery for your couch will occur between 12-4.”
“Ok, thank you, have a great day.”
Needless to say, I was expecting my furniture to arrive around that time, but as you guessed it, it did not. In fact, it was delayed for an additional 40 minutes.
The delays kept coming, a 40 minute delay turned into an all day event!
Delay is not Denial
When waiting on something whether its furniture or a dream to come into fruition, the delay doesn’t mean it’s not happening, it simply means not yet. What are you waiting to come into fruition? What are your dreams? One of the keys in waiting is HOPE. Keep your hope vibrant, don’t let it dwindle. As long as a candle burns, there will be light, as long as you keep your hope, there’s still a chance. Keep that same hope in God, when your hope is in Him, He won’t disappoint you. Now, you may have to wait, but you will not be disappointed. God is always on time even when it feels like He’s late.
What to Do While You Wait
Drumroll please….prepare and look. Yes, whatever you’re waiting on, make sure you are ready to receive it. Are you looking to be published? Well, is your manuscript written and presentable to publishers? Do you want to increase business sales? Do you have the inventory and/or manpower to handle an increase? The real question is are you prepared for what you’re praying for? Waiting is active. It’s not dwindling your thumbs with your feet propped up, its making sure you’re ready to receive what’s coming your way and expecting it.
Next, look for your harvest. Look for what you’re preparing for. When what you’re waiting on arrives, grab it! When my furniture finally came, I was ready, my space was cleared and my mom was present to help me hang pictures over my couch. Now, I have somewhere to entertain people when they come!
